Anna Lindh Broke the Siege

The Anna Lindh Foundation broke the siege …

If you’re asking why the flights to Barcelona are fully booked it’s because the Anna Lindh foundation booked them for the participants of the forum.

The room was completely full of people, more than 900 people from 43 different nationalities at least, the plenary had 5 different languages, he spoke in Catalan, she spoke in English, but the other spoke in French and also the Spanish and yes there was also Arabic.

I met her 10 years ago in a youth exchange with Euro-Med in Cyprus, and yes I met him 3 years ago in the Euro-Med youth platform in Malta, I know your face I think we met before, yes we met five years ago in France … the CCIB is full of people I met a long time ago, The Anna Lindh foundation brought us all together in one space , one city , amazing city on the Mediterranean, wonderful Barcelona.

Yes, I’m setting with more than 800 people from the 43 countries members in the Euro-Med cooperation; to change and exchange , to talk and listen, to learn and teach , to act and interact. We’re here to share visions of the world, to understand and learn from those that do not see the world with the same perspective we do; we’re here to bridge the divide between those who perceive diversity as a threat and those who view it as enrichment;

I’m not surprised , my experience with the Euro-Mediterranean youth programs taught me that borders could disappear when we have the willingness and the determination , the hope and the believe that we can change. But I’m surprised to see Anna Lindh foundation breaking the siege and the borders, Anna Lindh is one of the few organizations that managed to bring people from Gaza since the aggression against Gaza in 2008. I am Palestinian , I live in the west bank, few kilometers distance from Gaza , I’ve never been in Gaza and since the war I didn’t meet people from Gaza , I only see them on Al-Jazeera but now they’re here with me in Barcelona.

The world is easier than it looks, it’s not complicated, we always say it’s complicated because in this way we can escape from our responsibility toward the others.

hey Majd!
sounds like a great experience! sad as it may seem, international organizations are often our only means to meet in safe spaces where we don't have to feel threatened. hopefully in the future we will be able to meet without the mediation of these actors, but for now - I'm very glad they exist.
